In this post we detail the settings you need, to configure email software to use our system. The details here are not specific to any particular email software, but rather general settings.
We are working on creating video tutorials for individual email software, check this page to see if the software you use has a video tutorial.
When configuring your email software you need these pieces of information:-
With this information you can work out the rest of the settings required.
When setting up an email program it will want to know your incoming and your outgoing mail server, these are also referred to POP3 and SMTP respectively. When using the TPP Hosting System these addresses are derived from your domain name.
The domain name is the address after the ‘@’ symbol of your email address. For example for the email address john@testdomain.com.au the domain name is the testdomain.com.au portion.
So for both the incoming mail server and the outgoing mail server you just prefix your domain name with “mail. ”
Making:-
mail.testdomain.com.au
When asked in the configuration of your email software enter this as both the incoming and the outgoing address.
You will also be asked for a username and a password. For our system use the whole email address as the username, so again in our example it would be john@testdomain.com.au
Finally there is one extra setting that you will need to configure before your email configuration will work. You need to configure your email software to authenticate for sending (outbound) mail, turn on SSL and use port 465 to send.
In most email software there is a setting in the advanced, or options section of the configuration to do this, see the example below, this is Windows Mail for Vista and shows the screen under Advanced.
Windows Mail
